FIG. 1 · Marketplace design system and high-fidelity prototypes
SEC. 01 The brief

Design an intuitive user experience for an online rental marketplace: let individuals and small businesses, regardless of technical skill or market experience, list, manage, and rent out their underutilized assets for additional revenue.

The core tension was balancing feature richness with simplicity: minimizing cognitive load on every screen while still delivering the full set of asset-management tools, centred on the booking and listing flows where owners and renters actually meet.

SEC. 02 Process
01

Understanding the brief

Held discovery and planning sessions to define goals, target users, and the platform's value proposition: democratizing asset rental for individuals and small businesses, a seamless experience across devices, and a scalable MVP focused on booking, listing, and messaging.

02

Designing with purpose

Developed concepts rooted in simplicity, clarity, and flexibility, drawing on expectations set by e-commerce and social platforms, known pain points in existing rental services, and accessibility best practices. Early sketches emphasized visual hierarchy, modular asset display, and a dashboard built for users with minimal tech experience.

03

Functional features

Designed modals that surface key actions without page reloads, streamlined the listing flow to cut time-to-publish, introduced personalized marketplaces so users could skip building their own sites, and added real-time messaging for trust between parties.

04

Prototyping & feedback loop

Progressed from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes. Testing surfaced navigation overload and heavy reliance on search, which drove a search-first redesign, tooltips, and homepage simplification. Iterations were informed by small business owners, observational testing, and rental industry advisors.

05

Brand alignment & finalization

Aligned the UI with Lendus' mission: a friendly, minimal design system with clean typography, imagery focused on industrial and small business assets, and unified iconography and colour across the platform.

06

Production coordination

Implemented scalable frontend systems: modular components for future features, responsive layouts for desktop and mobile, and backend-ready flows for booking, messaging, and asset management.

07

Delivery & debut

Launched the MVP with a simplified listing and booking flow, a search-first UI, and profile dashboards with messaging, introduced through a soft launch.

SEC. 03 Outcome

The Lendus app shows what thoughtful UX does for accessibility: strategic research, lean design, and real-world testing produced a product that turns idle assets into active opportunities without the burden of technical complexity.
